Nova Nube – Beginner Vertical Dance Course

with Michela Lorenzano | Vertical Waves Project

📍 at C32, Forte Marghera – via Forte Marghera, Mestre (VE)
📅 Starting Wednesday, October 8, 2025

NOVA NUBE is the new proposal by Vertical Waves Project, designed to welcome all bodies approaching vertical dance for the first time—provided the spirit is curious and the heart open.

We will prepare every part of the body to crave space and connection, beginning with floor work that awakens presence—through gaze, skin, muscles, and breath. The practice will then move into the vertical dimension: grounded in our floor preparation, we’ll first explore the technical basics and then move toward inhabiting a new condition—one that we will slowly make our own.

Program Structure | 2025–2026

The course is divided into three modules:

MODULE 1 – In-person (Oct–Dec):
A first phase of training at Forte Marghera, Mestre.

MODULE 2 – Online (Jan–Mar):
A second phase consisting of 1-hour online sessions, keeping our shared creative language warm during the colder months.

MODULE 3 – In-person (Mar–May):
A return to the physical space and rhythm of Module 1.

The course is open to those without prior experience in vertical dance.
If you are already familiar with the practice, we recommend the Monday course with Marianna Andrigo.

About Michela Lorenzano | Vertical Waves Project

Michela trained in contemporary dance techniques and has been a vertical dancer with Vertical Waves Project since 2016.
Her work focuses on the body’s experience in both practice and performance—exploring how our perception of others and our surroundings changes when we are placed in conditions that allow us to perceive, respond, and act.
She encourages a presence that is both receptive and creative, giving the body space to discover new ways of interacting with the world around it.

About Vertical Waves Project

Vertical Waves Project is a dance company dedicated primarily to the creation of vertical dance performances.
Its works are characterized by the use of architecture as stage space: through the use of vertical techniques and aerial rigging systems, dance inhabits height and emptiness, treating space as a co-author in the choreography. The performances are site-specific, unfolding on walls, in open spaces, on self-supporting structures, or even trees.

In addition to artistic production, the company actively promotes vertical dance through regular courses and intensive workshops.
Beyond professional training, the company also engages in socially relevant projects, where vertical dance becomes a tool for community engagement, urban revitalization, social inclusion, and youth involvement.

What is Vertical Dance?

Vertical dance uses the wall as a floor, placing the performer in a perpendicular relationship to the vertical plane.
It involves a shift in orientation and the use of muscular strength to support the spine’s efforts.

Suspended from the ground, the performer explores total emptiness—discovering new orientations and engaging fully with the weight dynamics of the body.
The dancer wears a harness with a descender, a tool that allows connection to a working rope: a relationship of trust with the equipment is essential, enabling the dancer to release into movement and—over time—dare to reach greater heights.
