10-hour immersive vertical dance workshop for weightless bodies*

with Marianna Andrigo and Michela Lorenzano | Vertical Waves Project
C32 Performing Art Work Space – Forte Marghera, Via Forte Marghera, Venezia Mestre

Dates

Saturday, May 10th from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Sunday, May 11th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Who is this for?

This workshop is for those accustomed to both physical and mental movement, for those who love exploring new territories with curiosity and courage, and for those who have never or barely experienced vertical dance.

Immersing yourself in an unknown practice feels like leaping into the void, venturing into the unfamiliar: presenting yourself vulnerable yet adaptable, often with a hypnotic sparkle in your eyes.

Curiosity provides the body with immediate tools for study, guiding us gently and precisely towards new perceptions of our muscles and skeleton.

The workshop is designed to activate grounded awareness, encouraging participants to expand and renew their physical vocabulary. This foundation prepares them to wear a harness and transfer their interpretations of light, flowing, and novel movements onto a vertical surface.

The void becomes a faithful companion, transforming into a dreamlike, weightless mass.

Practice begins just a few meters off the ground, with groundwork preceding vertical exploration.

Who we are

Marianna Andrigo | Vertical Waves Project
Marianna discovered vertical dance in 2002. Her artistic journey reflects a deep and constant interest in the performative body, both in grounded practices and in aerial dimensions. Her studies in political science, her philosophical interests, and her exploration of Eastern practices shape the questions that fuel her work. This encompasses choreography, performance, curation, teaching, and creating projects that unite body, thought, and community.

What is vertical dance?

Vertical dance uses the wall as a floor, positioning the performer perpendicular to the vertical plane. It involves a new spatial orientation and requires muscles capable of supporting the spinal column’s effort. Detached from the ground, it allows for total exploration of the void, where the performer discovers new orientations and inevitably engages with the body’s weight distribution.

The performer wears a harness equipped with a descender, a device that anchors them to a working rope. This equipment fosters a relationship of trust, enabling freedom of movement and, with experience, the ability to dare great heights!
