The Faithful Void – Prato

10 hours of immersive vertical dance* workshop for gravity-free bodies
with Marianna Andrigo | Vertical Waves Project

at Buena Vibra Artist School, Via Dino Saccenti 5 – Prato

Saturday, January 25 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Sunday, January 26 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM

This workshop is intended for those accustomed to physical and mental movement, who are eager to explore new realms with curiosity and courage, even if they have little or no experience in vertical dance.

Immersing oneself in an unknown practice is like leaping into the void, venturing into the unfamiliar: we arrive vulnerable yet adaptable, often with an entranced sparkle in our eyes.

Curiosity provides immediate tools for our bodies to study and discover, guiding us, with gentleness and precision, toward new perceptions of our muscles and skeletons.

The workshop is designed to activate grounded attentiveness, renewing and refining your movement vocabulary on the floor, before stepping into a harness to transfer these explorations to a vertical surface. Here, you will bring lightness, breath, and new gestures to life.

The void can become a faithful partner, transforming into a space of dreamlike mastery.

Practice takes place just a few meters off the ground, with preparatory groundwork leading up to the vertical dance experience.

Marianna Andrigo | Vertical Waves Project
Marianna encountered vertical dance in 2002. Her artistic path unfolds through a deep interest in the performative body, both on the ground and in aerial contexts. Her background in political studies, philosophical interests, and practice in Eastern disciplines inspire her approach to composition, performance, curation, teaching, and the creation of projects that connect body, thought, and community. verticalwavesproject.com

*Vertical dance uses the wall as a floor, placing the performer in a perpendicular relationship to the vertical plane. This practice requires a new orientation and the engagement of muscles that protect the spine, granting the performer access to a total void, where they can explore new directions and feel the weight relationships among body parts. The performer wears a harness with a descender, a tool that anchors them to a working rope, establishing a crucial trust to free their dance and, with experience, to embrace greater heights!
